I love starting my day off with a nutritious filling smoothie, a really great idea to easily get a lot of nutrition into you in a quick and efficient way. You can easily get up to 6 servings of fruits and veggies in one drink. Smoothies can be filling so they also sustain you for a long time so you wont find yourself snacking on sugary treats.
Try experimenting with different combinations of fruits, vegetables, superfoods and even herbs! I like to use a combination of fresh and frozen fruits to get a nice texture and the frozen fruit keeps it cold so I can drink it later when I get to work.
Here are some tips to the make a nutrient dense, satisfying smoothie:
Pick a fruit- add a apple or pear (with skin, remove core), orange, kiwi, mango, banana, berries (frozen or fresh) or avocado.
Add a green- include a handful of fresh spinach, kale, chard, parsley, dandelion greens or fresh green of your choice. Or add a tsp of a greens powder or your choice if no fresh greens are on hand.
Add liquid- add a splash of water, fresh juice, cold herbal tea, coconut water or any milk or your choice.
Include a superfood- If you want to boost the nutrient content include one or two of the following: hemp or brown rice protein, goji berries, bee pollen, spirulina, chlorella, raw honey, coconut oil or flakes, cacao powder or any other superfood of your choice.
Blend until smooth and enjoy the amazing health benefits you will feel!
